Deep Winter Greenhouse Open House: Lake City

05/05/2018 04:00 PM - 07:00 PM CT

Description

U. of M. Regional Sustainable Development Partnerships and SFA are hosting the next in our Deep Winter Greenhouse open house series from 4 to 7 p.m. Sat., May 5, at Lake City Catholic Worker Farm, 33292 County 5 Blvd, Lake City. These events showcase producers, in this case Sara and Paul Freid, who are building innovative season-extending structures on their farms.

DWGs use passive solar heat collected from the sun in the day which is stored in an underground rock bed. At night that heat dissipates into the ambient space above to allow cold tolerant crops to grow. This technology will help small- and mid-sized farms increase their revenue potential helping to keep small farmers on the land and increase access to fresh locally grown food.

This event is also a potluck. Please bring a dish to share, plates and utensils.

This event is free and open to all, but an RSVP is encouraged.
