Oak Savanna Restoration Volunteer Workshop

06/12/2021 01:00 PM - 05:00 PM CT

Description

This workshop is tailored for volunteers interested in learning hands-on techniques for ecological restoration through sustainable farming practices. It is hosted by the Silvopasture Learning Network at SFA's Silvopasture & Agroforestry Project Lead, Tyler Carlson's farm.

In this unique opportunity, you will learn from farmers, scientists, and natural resources professionals about silvopasture (integrating trees and grazing livestock on the same land) and how it can be used to restore Minnesota's rapidly diminishing oak savanna.

Participants will rotate through workstations and learn from experts on topics such as soil and water health, forest management, seedling protection techniques, and selecting native seed mixes.

Volunteers should be prepared to engage in a moderate level of physical activity while helping the farm owner restore oak savanna. Long pants, closed toe shoes, and gloves recommended. Space is limited and pre-registration is required, register here.

Please bring your own water and snacks.
