Foraging for Food
Description
Join Central Chapter Board Member Kyle McClure in a walk through the forest for a crash course in wild edibles. Kyle has a state certification to harvest and legally sell wild mushrooms. August is an excellent time to find edible (or otherwise interesting) mushrooms, and while the woods can be forbidding (bugs, heat, etc.), they usually reap rewards.
Kyle has a wealth of knowledge on Fungal biology and personal safety when it comes to foraging in MInnesota. We encourage participants to come ready to learn, adventure, and (safely) sample the products of the woods.
The day will include a short hike through the wooded acres and finish with a pasture picnic to emphasize the social connection (we may even cook anything we find). We invite everyone to bring a dish to share to add to the story of the day.
After the course of official events, the Central Chapter board will conduct its monthly meeting onsite. All are welcome to stay and participate as appropriate.
Registration required. Address (near Melrose, MN) to come!
SFA's COVID-19 Preparedness Plan will be implemented at this event.
